Shashank Garg, co-founder Infocepts shared useful insights for SMEs:

  • Social is important, increase your social presence through Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter. Linkedin is useful for interactions with friends, employees and customers.

  • You can make small 30 sec to 2 min clips for Youtube and open a channel in your name. To know what people want to see on Youtube check what the top 10 topics are, see if you can solve something people want.

  • Focus on mobile instead of desktop. The content on your website that you wish to put should look good on mobile as more people use mobile to access content.

  • Leverage analytics, compare your performance with previous year.

  • Use cloud, it is very cheap and may costs as little as INR 200 to 1000/ month. Cloud services of Google, Microsoft and Amazon may be more secure than the desktop you may be using. Use cloud as a 2nd backup of your data, everyone has experienced loss of data at some time.

  • Lean things like advanced excel or how to use Linkedin for networking etc. There are online options like Edureka & Lynda (Paid) & EDX and Coursera (Free).

  • To control misuse of internet by employees (workplace) and children (home) you can use software like opendns.com to control sites that can be used.

  • For sales management there is Salesforce which is the best and Sugar. They costs very less per user and even small organizations can go for it.

  • Some activities like payroll, hiring, concierge services, travel, accounting, taxation and legal can be outsourced instead of having full time employees managing it.

  • For marketing create content. Look for design templates and images on the net & buy them.

  • Use facebook or google advertising, it is focused and you can reach the exact target audience.

  • For data collaboration Sharepoint can be used.

  • There are telecom bridges like webex, join.me

  • For working remotely one can use Teamviewer, TightVNC, Ammyy etc.

  • One can use IP PBX which can save table space. There is no need for a landline instrument, one can make calls over the PC with a bluetooth headset.
