Central India can attract the huge Chinese tourism market

Rishi Saraf  11-Jul-2018 :

Nagpur First along with VIA organized a talk at VIA hall to highlight the opportunity to attract the Chinese tourist to Vidarbha & invited speakers with global exposure who are passionate about the growth of Central India.

Vilas Kale, MD, Cenin Tours & Travels and Founder member Vidarbha Tourism Promotion Society and member TAAI Nagpur briefed the audience about the various places for tiger tourism in the region. He shared details of several interesting tourist places which are easily approachable from Nagpur.

Amit Waikar, Past President, Indian Association Shanghai & Sr. Vice President (Sales), Asia Pac at Döhler Group in China gave a deep insight into the huge opportunity that is being tapped by other countries like Taiwan, South Korea and others from Chinese tourism. Waikar, a Nagpur First Global Outreach Ambassador in China, with a desire to see development of the region, went to SPAFFC & also met with officials of travel companies in China.

He said China is No 1 in the world in outbound travel. To attract them Thailand is offering visa-on-arrival and Chinese speaking people at the airport. Safety of festination is very important to them. They use we-chat mobile payment for everything and 90% of them prefer to go to places where mobile payment si possible.

Quoting surveys Waikar said In 2017, Chinese made 127 million outbound trips. It is predicted that outbound tourism spending will keep increasing from $ 109.8 billion spent in 2016. He said outbound Chinese tourism market still has great potential since 80% of Chinese still have not applied for passports for outbound travels.

98% of the Chinese were willing to take trips and out of them 43.2% were willing to take an adventure & explore natural scenery & cultural customs, 34.2% want to relax, 16.4% would like to develop good relations with friends, loved ones or families. A Chinese tourist spent on shopping $762 Vs $486 spent by non-chinese tourist on an average. 93% of Chinese tourists would consider using mobile payments when travelling overseas he said.

Three countries have partnered with China on tourism i.e. Canada, EU and Turkey. Canada is trying to attract families and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, events).

The Chinese millennial traveller likes to be engaged in activities & look for selfie moments like visit to local schools, play games with local children, hike in rice fields, learn about tropical plants & animals, learn to surf & make kites, visit & have lunch with local families, visit markets, identify different ingredients, hike in the mountains, picnic in the valley. For different segments different activities according to different age groups would be required.

Faiz Wahid from Nagpur First spoke on the activities of Nagpur First & launched Nagpur First Connect, an initiative to connect Nagpuris all over the world with the City, at the hands of the guest speakers. Suhas Buddhe, Secretary VIA addressed the gathering. Rishi Saraf of Nagpur First introduced the speakers & moderated the session. The program was well attended & Nagpur First members were present in large numbers.

Resort owners & people from tourism industry can understand what they need to do to tweak their offerings to create the experience desired by the millenial chinese tourist.

Both speakers and Nagpur First promised continued support for the cause of Central India’s development.

I introduced the speakers & moderated the talk.
