Rishi Saraf  11-Jul-2018 :

Nagpur First along with VIA organized a talk at VIA hall to highlight the Chinese opportunity in manufacturing through JVs with Chinese companies.

Amit Waikar was the guest speaker. He is the past president, Indian Association Shanghai & Sr Vice President (Sales), Asia Pac at Döhler Group in China. He shared the developments taking place in China & how Central India could seize this through JVs.

He says in China the Government & the party are the same which help in quick implementation of the policies. The focus of their 5 year plan is to boost high-tech industries, including IT, new energy vehicles, biotechnology, low-carbon industries, high-end equipment & materials, semiconductors, robots & intelligent systems. China aims to become a world powerhouse of scientific & technological innovation by 2050.

For the 10 year plan he says that Key sectors include new IT, numerical control tools & robotics, aerospace, ocean engineering and high-tech ships, railway, energy saving and new energy vehicles, power equipment, new materials, biological medicine and medical devices and agricultural machinery.

China which was once known for low cost manufacturing is moving into value added products as low cost manufacturing moves to other countries like Vietnam as labour costs rise in China. This opens opportunities for companies in India to manufacture API, intermediates and chemicals for the Chinese as well as global markets he says.

For the first time in China an import fair is being organized at Shanghai on 5-10 Nov18 to see what is available in the world which China can buy. People from Central India can join hands to set up booths there he suggested.

Waikar has been in the forefront of arranging high profile community interactions for Indian leaders like PM Narendra Modi, Ex Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and others. He has taken few ground breaking initiatives and has been instrumental in involving Indians based out of Shanghai in India-centric activities. “Garje Marathi” is a famous book which has chapters on people from Maharashtra who have carved out a name for themselves in different part of the world and this book has a chapter on him.

Waikar and Nagpur First promised continued support for the cause of Central India’s development.

Faiz Wahid, Hon Secy, Nagpur First and Suhas Buddhe, Hon Secy, VIA briefed the audience about their activities. Rishi Saraf, Nagpur First, moderated the session.
