Market for electronics will be $400 billion by 2020. In the past importing was far easier than trying to make in India. this seems to be changing, thanks to government acting as catalyst. Lenovo, the $46 billion Chinese gadget maker has 2 factories in India.
Other global giants like Boeing, GE, HTC, Siemens, Toshiba are lining up to setup factories in India.
Micromax, which was importing phones is preparing to produce locally.
